Six Āyatanas (Salāyatana)

Cakkhu – Rūpa
The eye (cakkhu) perceives forms (rūpa), allowing us to see the world.

Ghāna – Shabdha
The ear (sota) perceives sounds (sadda), bringing awareness of auditory experiences.

Ghāna – Gandha
The nose (ghāna) perceives smells (gandha), connecting us to fragrances and odors.


Jivhā – Rasa
The tongue (jivhā) perceives tastes (rasa), sensing flavors in food and drink.

Kāya – Phoṭṭhabba
The body (kāya) perceives touch (phoṭṭhabba), feeling textures, pressure, and temperature.

Mano – Dhammā
The mind (mano) perceives mental objects (dhammā), observing thoughts, ideas, and emotions.
